About Our Worship Services
Worship
services are at 10:45 every Sunday morning. If you are a first-time visitor, even if you have
no church experience, you will feel comfortable and at home.
Our hope is that you will be led to sense the presence of God, such that you come
away with awe, wonder, and a stronger faith in Jesus Christ. It is our hope and prayer that the
services are led by the Holy Spirit, honoring to God, exalting of Jesus Christ, and based on the
Bible. That is why you will sometimes hear people shout "Hallelujah" during the singing of a song,
and an "Amen" during the sermon. People do this because they have found the ultimate joy in life
through Jesus Christ.
We seek to be biblical, placing great emphasis on Bible expository preaching.
While Biblical, we also seek to be life-relevant.
We are contemporary in style, in the sense that we worship with a full band
(drums, keyboards guitars, singers). Because of the gifts and talents of our people, we employ a
rock/pop/jazz genre of music. It's basically the kind of music that you'll find on most praise and
worship CD's by Vineyard, Maranatha, Hillsong, Delirious, and One Day Passion. We usually sing a
familiar Hymn as well.
Our worship is fairly unstructured in the sense that there is no order printed in the bulletin as it is
in some more traditional churches. Most of the time the service is spent on singing and listening
to God's Word. Some things you'd might like to know about our worship services:
-
A Joyful Celebration of the New Life in Christ --
Feel free to express your praise to the Lord. Worship is not just listening attentively, but it is
also actively singing, prayer, clapping, bowing - whatever you do to express honor and praise to
God.
-
Sunday School --
Prior to the worship service, at 9:30 a.m. we have Sunday School classes for adults. These classes
are for life enrichment, Bible knowledge, and special topics of interest, all in a smaller class
setting.
-
About Tongues --
We do not speak in tongues publicly in the worship services, unless there is also an
interpretation. But if you have this spiritual gift, we encourage you to use your gift softly in
private during the service, or with others with the same gift.
The Gift of Tongues is a valuable gift! But in public worship, especially on Sunday mornings, we
must be sensitive to unbelievers and inquirers, so that they may not be distracted from the
message about Jesus Christ. In the Bible, it says, "But in the church I would rather speak
five intelligible words to instruct others than ten thousand words in a tongue... So if the whole
church comes together and everyone speaks in tongues, and some who do not understand or some
unbelievers come in, will they not say that you are out of your mind?" (1 Corinthians
14:19, 23)
-
Nursery Care --
Nursery care is available for the morning worship services every Sunday. There will be one
or two attendants, depending on the number of children, where at least one of the attendants is
herself a mother. We want to handle your baby with extra tender care and with clean, organized
facilities. Intended for ages 0-2.
-
Children's Sunday School --
After the first few songs at the beginning of the worship service, children ages 3-6 may be
excused to attend our Children's Sunday School. This is where young children meet to hear a Bible
story and participate in some Bible activities, all at a level they could comprehend. A parallel
program is used for children across all ages so that all of your children learn the same lesson on
their own level. The deacons will make an announcement during the service at the time your
child may leave for Sunday School.
-
Sermon Recordings --
Online audio files of the service are usually available by the following
Wednesday. For a sermon on audio CD, please contact us and we will prepare
a CD for you to pick up at the next service.
