Where FCC stands on several issuesHere are the stated convictions of Friendship Community Church on a few matters of faith and doctrine. We believe in Biblical inerrancy as defined by the Chicago Statement on Inerrancy of 1978. We believe in the Protestant and Reformed faith as defined by the Heidelberg Catechism, the Belgic Confession, and the Canons of Dort. We believe that the practice of homosexuality is sinful. Christians who struggle with this sin must receive the love, care, and compassion of the Church. Christians who approve of homosexual practice should be admonished and disciplined by the Church with the goal of restoring the errant Christian. Also, the church has the responsibility to communicate the liberating gospel of salvation through Jesus Christ to homosexual non-believers. (Lev 18:22, 20:13; Rom 1:26-27) We believe that the Biblical principle of male headship in the home and church ought to be practiced by limiting the offices of pastor and elder to qualified males. This principle, however, does not apply in the same way to areas outside of the home and church, such as politics and business. (Eph 5:22-33; 1 Tim 2:8-15; 1 Peter 3:1-7) We believe that abortion is sinful except when the mother may die as a result of childbirth. However, women who have had abortions must receive the love, care, and compassion of the Church. We believe that the universe was created by God, out of nothing, and that the theory of evolution, in both its theistic and atheistic forms, is in error. Therefore, we believe that a literal, six-day creation theory best fits the Biblical record. |
